The team of 3 finished replacing our chimney crown in a day and a half. The office was easy to work with & responsive to phone calls.
We are mostly happy with the work they did. There were a few things that could have been done in a tidier manner (some concrete smears were left behind on our red brick & the metal flashing underneath the concrete is slightly uneven on 2 of the corners). This is our first chimney crown replacement, so I have no idea if these are normal things or not.
Update: I originally rated them 4/5 stars but changed the rating to 5/5. They were very quick to follow up about the bits we weren’t totally happy with. Brad came today to visually inspect the work & called me to explain what I was seeing. I’m satisfied with the service we received & would definitely use them again.
Update: Work was done by Rufino and his crew. They were quick, detailed, and service-focused. Very clean during and after the job (exterior work is messy). They did great.

Chimney Sweep and Repair in Rolling Meadows, IL
Rolling Meadows is one of the most uniform housing stocks we work in. Much of the city went up in the 1950s as planned ranch subdivisions, which means a great many chimneys here are the same chimney, built the same way, the same age, and now failing in the same way at the same time. Call 847-994-4388 or book online. We serve the 60008 zip code and the surrounding communities, including Arlington Heights, Palatine, Schaumburg, Mount Prospect and Inverness.
One Housing Stock, One Set of Findings
When a few thousand houses are built to the same plan in the same decade, the chimneys reach the same point together. What we document across Rolling Meadows again and again: a short masonry stack that struggles to draft on windy days, a crown with no drip edge that has cracked through, open mortar joints on the weather face, and a flue that was sized for a furnace and water heater venting together.
That predictability is useful to a homeowner. It means we usually know what to look at first, and it means we can tell you quickly whether your chimney is at the ordinary stage for its age or genuinely worse than its neighbors. It does not mean we skip anything. We still document your chimney rather than the pattern.
The Oversized Water Heater Flue
This is the finding with the most direct safety consequence, and most owners have never heard of it. Once the original furnace was replaced with a high-efficiency unit venting out a side wall, the water heater was left venting alone into a chimney sized for two appliances. The exhaust cools before it reaches the top, condenses, and the moisture works on the liner and the mortar from the inside.
We find white staining and deteriorating joints inside the flue, soft mortar at the top, and in the worst cases a liner shedding into a flue venting an appliance that produces carbon monoxide. The correction is a properly sized stainless liner, and we inspect that flue at the same rate as a fireplace.
Short Stacks and Draft
Ranch construction puts the chimney top close to its own roof, and a flue has to terminate high enough above that roof and clear of nearby obstructions to draft reliably. Seventy years of tree growth around these subdivisions has not helped. The symptom is a fireplace that behaves on calm days and smokes into the room when the wind is up, which owners read as a dirty chimney. We measure the termination and what is around it. Where the flue is short, the fix is normally an extension or a different cap.
What We Repair and Maintain in Rolling Meadows
- Level 1 and Level 2 chimney inspections — a documented condition report on the flue, firebox and chimney exterior, with photographs.
- Water heater and furnace chimney liners — correctly sized stainless liners for appliance flues.
- Chimney cleaning and sweeping — creosote removal and draft correction on wood-burning fireplaces and stoves.
- Crown repair and replacement — with a drip edge, so water leaves the chimney instead of soaking into it.
- Brick and mortar repair and tuckpointing — repointing joints before water gets behind the brick.
- Chimney caps and spark arrestors — stock, custom and multi-flue caps sized to the flue.
- Chimney relining — for cracked, offset or missing clay tile.
- Firebox and smoke chamber repair — parging voids and rebuilding deteriorated fireboxes.
- Gas fireplace and gas log service — valves, log sets, ignition and venting, by NFI-certified technicians.
- Chimney leak repair — finding the actual entry point before anything gets sealed.
- Dryer vent cleaning — including long and rooftop runs.
Areas We Cover
All of Rolling Meadows, including the original ranch subdivisions off Kirchoff and Campbell, the neighborhoods near Salt Creek, and the areas bordering Arlington Heights, Palatine, Schaumburg and Mount Prospect.
Why Our Inspections Are Paid
We charge for inspections because the inspection is the service: we document what is actually happening with photographs and, where conditions allow, a camera survey of the flue, then explain what is urgent, what is maintenance and what can reasonably wait. A free estimate prices a known job. A diagnostic inspection determines what the job actually is. The report is yours whether or not we do the repair.

Rolling Meadows Chimney Questions
Our neighbors all had chimney work done. Does that mean we need it too?
Possibly, and it is a fair question here, because these houses were built together and age together. But we document your chimney rather than the pattern, and we will tell you plainly if yours is at the ordinary stage for its age and can wait.
We replaced our furnace and were told the chimney is now too big. Is that real?
Yes, and it is the most common condition we find here. A flue sized for a furnace and water heater together is oversized once the furnace vents out the side wall. The exhaust cools, condenses and damages the flue from the inside. The correction is a liner sized to the appliance.
My fireplace smokes into the room when the wind blows. Is the chimney dirty?
Sometimes, but on a ranch it is more often termination height and nearby obstructions. We measure it. If the flue is short, the fix is usually an extension or a different cap rather than anything structural.
How much does a chimney sweep cost in Rolling Meadows, IL?
A chimney sweep runs $300 to $350 and includes the Level 1 inspection. An inspection on its own is $200 to $300, and the same range covers a utility chimney serving a furnace or water heater. A Level 2 inspection with a camera survey of the flue is around $300. Typical rates as of September 2026.
Do you charge for the inspection?
Yes. You are paying for a documented answer: photographs, a camera survey of the flue where conditions allow, and a written explanation of what needs correcting now versus what can wait. That report is yours whether or not we do the repair.
