Booking Fall Chimney Service: What to Have Ready

Fall is a busy season at Chimney Monkey. If you plan to use your fireplace as the weather cools, arrange service before the evening you want to light it. An inspection may identify cleaning or other work that needs attention first, so leave room for the next step.

A few details can make the booking conversation more useful. Here is what to have ready when you contact us.

Tell us which fireplace needs attention

Start with your town, the number of fireplaces you want checked, and whether each burns wood or gas. Tell us if you have an insert or freestanding stove. If you are unsure what you have, say so—a clear photo of the appliance can help us understand the request.

Have the date of the last inspection or cleaning handy, along with any report you received. Mention recent repairs, a change of appliance or fuel, or whether you have moved into the home and do not know the service history.

Describe what you noticed, in your own words

You do not need to diagnose the problem. “Smoke came into the room last winter” or “There is a stain beside the chimney after rain” is useful information. Tell us when it happened, whether the fireplace was running, and whether anyone previously recommended that you stop using it.

If you have been told not to use the fireplace, keep it out of use until the condition has been addressed and you have clear guidance on returning it to service. A booking confirmation does not establish that the fireplace is ready to use.

Have a few safely taken photos ready

  • A wide view of the fireplace and hearth.
  • A closer view of a visible concern, taken with the fireplace off and cool.
  • The appliance label, if it is readily accessible without removing parts.
  • An exterior view of the chimney from the ground, if relevant.

There is no need to climb onto the roof, reach into the flue, or dismantle anything. Photos help introduce the request; they cannot replace an inspection or establish the condition of concealed areas. Ask us how to share them when you book.

Plan for an inspection, with cleaning as needed

The Chimney Safety Institute of America’s homeowner guidance, citing NFPA 211, calls for chimney inspections at least annually, with cleaning, maintenance and repairs when necessary. How often you use the fireplace is useful background, but it does not settle what service it needs.

Our paid diagnostic inspection documents the findings and recommended next steps. When you schedule, ask what the appointment includes and whether your concern calls for a particular inspection scope. If work is recommended, ask what should be completed before use and what can reasonably wait.

Get the appointment on the calendar

Have a few possible dates ready, mention access arrangements, and ask about current availability and appointment preparation. If you hope to use the fireplace for a particular gathering, tell us the date when you contact us.
